Pictochat viewable in-game.
Ever-watchful reader markatkollege sends this..."Here is a link that states that PictoChat will be updated to continuously search for occupied chat rooms using the latest Yoshi: Touch & Go game. “TGN spoke to Nintendo earlier today to confirm whether this information was accurate, and the company says it is, indeed, true!”This is great news - it suggests that the fruits of the firmware are available to external code on the DS card and the GBA cartridge. There's no reason we can't make our own interfaces using existing tech!

It might sound like a firmware update, but it's not. Yoshi simply has code to check for any active pictochat sessions.

So this means that once the Yoshi game card is removed, the DS will no longer have this ability - rather than the game card actually updating the DS functionality, it's only temporary - let's hope that ALL future games do this though!
Of course, this only works locally. What the interesting part of this is, what will software do once the DS goes online?
The problem here is that no one will be in picto chat doing any chatting - we'll all be picto-chat monitoring via Yoshi TouchnGo instead! Dang!
