Nintendo DS XMas Story + UPDATE

Remember "A Christmas Carol?" (thanks anonymous reader for the correction) Delusional old man see's three ghosts? Well - I've been harboring my own secret Xmas delusions. I've developed what is more than a theory, less than a hallucination - that 2 companies are going to give the world a gift and release life-changing free softwares on Xmas day.

The first is that XLink Tunnel will tunnel the DS by their stated Xmas goal. The second is that TiVo will release their long-expected TiVo To-Go - also slotted for sometime in 2004. TiVo to go will finally let Series 2 TiVo owners move shows from their TiVo harddrive to their network - and potentially burn DVDs of those shows with the TiVo menu as the DVD menu. My God - they've been running insinuating ads for it in Wired for the last couple months.

This is possible, right? We'll all wake up tomorrow with new functionality on our TiVos and an email from XLink telling us to update our versions? Right? An XMas gift from our two favorite companies. A nice little tutorial for each skinned like an XMas card? Why aren't you answering me, damnable spirits?! IS THERE STILL TIME?!!

What day is it, boy? Why it's XMas, Mista Scrooge!

Good! Good! There's still time! Take this penny-farthing and go buy the biggest XLink compatible router sold and take it to the Kratchet home. I'll meet you there with some TiVo To-Go Fututama compilation DVD's and we'll chill.

UPDATE: XLink didn't make Xmas but I know they'll have it figured out soon. Give 'em hell boys. Knock the DS into little cubes. My TiVo still works as expected. TiVo turned evil this year: running ads on top of ads and sending out notices to the media that "TiVo" should not be used as a verb. Here's an Xmas secret boys - if you're so scared and legalistic that you don't appreciate people using TiVo as a verb... you don't deserve it!

I guess, like Scrooge, my Xmas greed will be my downfall. Perhaps I'll have to settle for my house full of loved ones and this Xmas mimosa. Oh wait - I'm ecstatic.

Merry Xmas to you and yours.

FYI, you mean "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. A Christmas Story is the one involving the F-word, a long slide, and a red ryder BB gun.

No, no, no! Ack! No DS support yet! Team Xlink says it will take longer! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Don't be offended by the "using Tivo as a verb" thing. They're just trying to protect their trademark. Kind of like Kleenex or Xerox has become a generic term for tissue paper and photocopy machines.

I understand that but I had stopped using the verb "watch" altogether in favor of "TiVo." I did that because I wanted other people to know of and understand TiVo. Now I'm worried that I won't be able to recommend it unreservedly.

Precious few companies get the seal of satisfaction and trust that TiVo could once boast. What is that trading for? So Comcast can't use the word "TiVo" in their commercials? Won't that just help TiVo? Isn't TiVo still the TiVo of TiVo's? If you're a brand person in the first place you still prefer Kleenex to Shop N' Stop brand face-cleansing tissues.

I'm confused...we were told that it would be finished being tunneled and we would have it by Dec 25...but it's already past New Years and still nothing...what's going on exactly?
